In this video, Anita demonstrates the introduction of the comprehension skill of cause and effect. She starts by explaining what the terms mean using a graphic representation on the overhead. She orally models cause and effect whole group. She used a story that students had already read to find cause and effect elements within the text. During the lesson, Anita constantly checks for understanding by asking students questions such as, “which comes first, cause or effect?” The class practices whole group by reading aloud text in a cloze-like strategy. She asks students to partner up and share the cause/effect before sharing out whole group.
