Students will actively participate in the activity “Counter Addition” to introduce addition sentences. Students will use counters to write number combinations for the number 5 (or larger number for high-ability students). Students will pour out the cup of counters and color the corresponding counters on the recording sheet. Students will then proceed to write an addition sentence that matches the colors of counters they poured out of their cups. Students will use the e-manipulatives website to create other number combinations. #VegasPBS-MATH250
