To Kill a Mockingbird Central Idea Activity

Students will read "Merry-Go-Round" by Langston Hughes, and view a video clip about the Freedom Riders to determine a central theme to answer the overlying essential questions, "How can one person make a difference?" and "When is it acceptable to act outside the rules in order to ensure justice?" Students will relate what they learn from these resources to Jim Crow laws and To Kill a Mockingbird.
